Phumelele Kunene was born in South Africa and raised in Swaziland. Ms. Kunene has vast financial experience, which includes corporate South Africa in retail banking, and corporate America in the Mortgage Banking Division. Before emigrating to the United States, Ms. Kunene retired from the corporate world to begin a successful corporate gifts business in South Africa. Ms. Kunene holds a diploma in Marketing Management from Varsity College, Durban, and is currently pursuing a BBA in Fashion Merchandising and Management with International Business minor at Berkeley College. Ms. Kunene is a serial entrepreneur. She launched and presented her ready-to-wear women’s collection during New York Fashion Week in Spring/Summer 2015. Ms. Kunene’s company, BlackPhumelele Designs, is one of four resident businesses in theBROOKLYNfashionincubator at Berkeley College, a partnership with Macy’s.
