Photo Caption: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Berkeley College recently participated in The Clothesline Project, a worldwide initiative that invites women affected by violence to share their stories, and gives allies an opportunity to show their support. More than 75 faculty, staff and students have shared stories and support on T-shirts, which the College displays on clotheslines. “The Clothesline Project is a visual testimony of survival, hope and loss,” said Amanda Frey, Personal Counselor, who organized the initiative at Berkeley College in Newark. “The T-shirts recognize the impact domestic and sexual violence have on us, our families and our communities.”

Danielle Francois, Health and Outreach Educator, Essex County Family Justice Center, spoke at the unveiling of The Clothesline Project at Berkeley College. “College-age women experience the highest per capita rate of domestic violence, with 21 percent reporting violence from a current partner and 32 percent reporting violence from a previous partner,” Ms. Francois said. “Violence on campus continues because it is not talked about and not reported, which is why events like The Clothesline Project are so important in higher education.” Pictured above left (L to R) are Ms. Francois; Ms. Frey; Yarissa Rodriguez-Williams, DC, Assistant Chair, Health Services Management, Berkeley College Larry L.
