SOUNDS OF THE CITY SPONSOR BERKELEY COLLEGE PRESENTS AWARDS TO
LOCAL NATIONAL GUARD UNITS ON VETERANS NIGHT AT NJPAC

Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes

Photo Caption: Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes, PhD, (sixth from right) gathers on the lawn of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center with City of Newark and Berkeley College officials, and local veterans of the National Guard unit — the 2-113th Infantry Battalion — which recently returned from a one-year deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Berkeley College recognized these recently returned service members during Veterans Night at NJPAC’s Sounds of the City Concert on August 27, and held a news conference earlier that day at the Berkeley College Newark Campus, announcing the unique combination of services and degree programs available through the College and its new Office of Military and Veterans Affairs.

In addition to President Cortes, other Berkeley College officials in the photo include Newark Campus Operating Officer Stan Holland, Associate Vice President Richard E. Robitaille, and Senior Vice President of External Affairs Teri Duda. Government officials include Councilman Donald Payne, Jr.; City of Newark Deputy Mayor Margarita Muniz, and City Council President Mildred Crump. Members of the 2-113th Infantry Battalion are: CPT Manny Casanga, 1LT Patrick Moore, CPT Brandon Bennett, CPT Omar Minott, LTC Mark Piterski, CSM Thomas Clark, MAJ Stephen McKenzie, CPT Nicholas Hoffman, and CPT Arthur Macaspac.
