PASTOR OF DISTINCTION TITLE AWARDED TO MICHAEL J. BASTON,
DEAN OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND CAMPUS LIFE
BERKELEY COLLEGE, NEW YORK CITY CAMPUS

Berkeley College is proud to announce that Michael J. Baston, JD, Dean of Student Development and Campus Life, New York City, has been awarded the title of “Pastor of Distinction” by The Pastor’s Aid Ministry of St. Luke Cathedral in Laurelton, New York. The award recognizes outstanding members of the clergy who have made a positive contribution to underserved communities in New York City. Mr. Baston, who serves as senior pastor of St. Luke Cathedral, was one of seven ministers recognized for outstanding services to the community of southeast Queens during an April 19 luncheon.

Elected officials including New York State Sen. Charles E. Schumer, Queens Borough President Helen M. Marshall and New York City Councilman James Sanders Jr., addressed the nearly 540 guests who attended the luncheon. In addition to a video montage tracing his many years of service to the community, Mr. Baston received a Citation of Honor from Queens Borough President Marshall; a Congressional Award from Rep. Gregory Meeks of the Sixth Congressional District; a Commendation from New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr.; and a City Council Citation from New York City Councilman Leroy Comrie.

Mr. Baston has received numerous awards over the years, not only for outstanding service to his church community, but also in his role as Executive Director of the Laurelton-Rosedale Senior Citizens Center, and in his role at Berkeley College where he offers encouragement and support to generations of young people.

Mr. Baston joined Berkeley College in 1998 as an adjunct professor. In 1999, he was appointed Assistant Dean of Students, New York City. He was appointed to his current position in 2002 and today works diligently to assist students in becoming engaged learners and effective leaders.
