Joel Martinez Appointed Campus Operating Officer at Berkeley College in White Plains, NY

Joel Martinez of White Plains, NY, has been appointed Campus Operating Officer (COO) for Berkeley College in White Plains, NY, effective January 2, 2016.  He most recently worked as COO at Berkeley College in Newark, NJ.

As COO of Berkeley College in White Plains, Mr. Martinez will handle day-to-day operations and collaborate with many departments to ensure that the policies, procedures and goals of the campus and College are met. He will also continue to build and strengthen partnerships with businesses in the community that will support the growth of internships, which lead to permanent positions for Berkeley College students and graduates.

Mr. Martinez’s appointment is part of a realignment of operational leadership at the institution, as announced by Berkeley College President Michael J. Smith.

“Joel Martinez brings leadership experience that will help provide each Berkeley College student with a meaningful education and path to a dynamic career,” said Berkeley College President Michael J. Smith. “Our goal is to improve the ability of our students to succeed and graduate.”

A resident of White Plains, NY, Mr. Martinez has more than ten years of experience with Berkeley College. He was promoted to Campus Operating Officer at Berkeley College in Newark in 2015, where he was involved in community-based initiatives such as the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s arts education programs. He was honored for his commitment to the community and professional excellence in September 2016, when NJBIZ selected him as one of New Jersey’s 2016 Forty Under 40.

Mr. Martinez previously worked as Senior Director of Admissions, managing Adult Admissions at the Midtown Manhattan campus, and both Adult and High School Admissions at the Brooklyn campus. He received the 2013 Associate of the Year Award in Leadership, which recognizes individuals who inspire others to achieve the mission of Berkeley College. He also was selected to participate in the 2011 class of Leadership Berkeley, the College’s development program for emerging leaders.

Mr. Martinez began his career in 2003 at Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers in the Latin America division in New York City as an investment analyst before he started working at Berkeley College. He earned an MBA in Finance from Pace University, Lubin School of Business, New York, and both his AAS and BS degrees in International Business from Berkeley College.
