Heidi Hoefinger, PhD, Math and Sciences, Berkeley College School of Liberal Arts, received the 2016 Honors Program Faculty Excellence Award at this year’s Honors Program reception at the Chart House in Weehawken, NJ, on September 26, 2016. The reception also recognized 31 Berkeley College Honors Scholars, whose work Dr. Hoefinger said raised the bar for her as a faculty member.

The requirements of the Honors Program at Berkeley College are distinguished by scholarship and service. Scholars must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, complete four consecutive theme-based, interdisciplinary honors seminars with a B or better, and develop, write, and present an honors thesis at an Honors Symposium.  The theme-based curriculum for this year’s graduates was Global Health.  At the Research Symposium, Honors Scholars presented on topics such as access to clean water in developing countries, racial discrimination and police brutality, technology in the workplace and global feminism.

The Honors Program at Berkeley College was created in 2011 to attract and retain highly motivated, high-achieving students pursuing Bachelor’s degrees. There are three learning communities, located in Midtown Manhattan, Woodland Park, and Berkeley College Online®. Each community has 15 to 20 students.

A leader in providing career-focused education since 1931, Berkeley College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and enrolls approximately 8,300 students – including more than 700 international students – in its Baccalaureate and Associate degree and Certificate programs. Students can study in more than 20 career fields. Berkeley College is comprised of the Larry L. Luing School of Business®, the School of Professional Studies, the School of Health Studies and the School of Liberal Arts. The School of Graduate Studies offers a Master of Business Administration degree in Management online and in Woodland Park, NJ.

Berkeley College has five New Jersey campuses – Dover, Newark, Paramus, Woodbridge and Woodland Park. In New York there are three campuses – Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn and White Plains. Berkeley College Online® serves a global population. In 2016, U.S. News & World Report named Berkeley College among the Best Colleges for Online Bachelor’s Programs and among the Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans, both for the third consecutive year.
