Heather C. Briccetti. Esq., President and Chief Executive Officer of The Business Council of New York State, Inc., has been Elected to the Berkeley College Board of Trustees

Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., has been elected to the Berkeley College Board of Trustees. Ms. Briccetti is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Business Council of New York State, Inc., the primary, statewide association advocating for New York’s business community. Ms. Briccetti’s nomination was unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees on January 15, 2016.

“Throughout her career, Heather has been a strong advocate of partnerships between higher education, business and government that are critical to the economic vitality of the State of New York,” said Kevin L. Luing, Chairman of the Berkeley College Board of Trustees. “We value Ms. Briccetti’s leadership and the business and legislative experience she brings to advancing Berkeley’s mission.”

The Business Council of New York State named Ms. Briccetti president in 2012, following her successful tenure as its vice president of government affairs since 2007. Ms. Briccetti also served as a consultant for Powers & Company, where she advised clients on a range of issues including economic development projects in New York City such as the Javits Center expansion and the new Yankee Stadium.

Berkley’s commitment to workforce development, through career-focused education, is exactly what our state’s educational, business, and political leaders need to be focused on.” said Ms. Briccetti.

Ms. Briccetti’s career achievements include serving as assistant counsel to the New York State Senate majority, as a legislative aide and counsel to the New York State Assembly majority committee on Racing and Wagering, and special counsel in the New York State Attorney General’s office. She also founded a private law practice, Sweeney & Wollowitz, and was the chief public defender for Rensselaer County, earlier in her career.

Ms. Briccetti has been on numerous boards and committees, including: Council of State Chambers, Board of Directors; New York State Wage Board; American Chamber of Commerce Executives, Board of Directors; the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, Board of Directors; the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division’s Third Judicial Department Committee on Character and Fitness; the Commercial Division Advisory Council for the Supreme Court of the State of New York; the New York State Tax Relief Commission; the New York State Tourism Advisory Council; and the Chairman's Committee for the Regional Economic Development Councils.

She has won numerous honors for her leadership in the business community including City and State’s Above & Beyond award, and the Albany Business Review’s Women Who Mean Business award. Additionally, she has been included in City and State’s Albany Power 100 List and profiled in the Albany Business Review, The Buffalo News and Her Life magazine.

Born in Tunisia to Peace Corps volunteers, Ms. Briccetti was raised in Syracuse, New York. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at 16, she transferred to the State University of New York at Binghamton, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, and by the age of 23, she earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Albany Law School. Ms. Briccetti resides in New York’s Capital Region, on a farm with her three sons.
