Cortes, PhD, Berkeley College Senior Vice President, Strategic Alliances (right), at her office in Washington, D.C. Dr. Cortes shared Berkeley College’s commitment to educating first-generation and underserved students in and beyond the district Rep. Velázquez serves, which includes Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan and Queens. Dr. Cortes also discussed Berkeley College’s Bridge to College program, which provides New York City high school students with opportunities to prepare for college through programs such as mentorship, tutoring, career exploration and financial aid seminars sponsored by Berkeley College. Rep. Velázquez, nominated Dr. Cortes to the Advisory Council of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the nation’s leading Hispanic leadership development nonprofit organization. Rep. Velázquez is a ranking member of the House Small Business Committee and a senior member of the Financial Services Committee.
