Former members of the Berkeley Knights Men’s Basketball team were among more than 2,300 graduates to receive their diplomas from Berkeley College at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on Friday, May 11, 2018. Johnnie Green of Brooklyn, NY, one of six players to earn a degree, shared the graduation stage with his teammates.

“Graduating with a degree means so much to me. I wanted to not only make my mother proud, but also to get a good job so I could help her with the bills, and move to a safer environment,” Mr. Green said. “My dream has come true, and playing basketball while going to college and working part time was the greatest accomplishment I have ever achieved,” added Mr. Green, who earned an Associate in Applied Science, Business Administration – Management.

Mr. Green was part of the team that captured its fourth national championship this year. He also served as Co-captain of the team, along with teammates Teyvon Bussey and Shamoree Strawn. In 2018, he was named a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference standout. In the photo, four of the players surround Head Coach Jonathan Pena of Queens, NY (center). The graduates (L to R) are Reynaldo Eloy of Brooklyn, NY; Teyvon Bussey of the Bronx, NY; Johnnie Green and Stanley Peacock, both of Brooklyn, NY. Graduates not pictured are Keenan Langston of Brooklyn and Dondre Simmons of Manhattan, NY. Five of the six graduates received Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in Management and one received an Associate in Applied Science degree in the same field.

The Berkeley College Men’s Basketball team has made history over the past few years, capturing its fourth consecutive national crown in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Division II conference.  You can watch a recent interview with Head Coach Pena, Head Coach Emeritus Chris Christiansen and Steve Adubato in a segment called “One on One” recorded by New Jersey Television Network.
