BERKELEY COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER
RODNESHA DIAMOND COMPETES IN CBC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Berkeley College New York Women’s Basketball team has solidified itself as one of the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference’s (USCAA) premiere squads. The team comes off its second straight season of qualifying for at least the semifinal round of the USCAA National Women’s Basketball Tournament. Winning a National title will once again be a primary goal during the 2014-2015 campaign, and for one member of the Women’s Basketball team, preparation is already underway.
Knights player Rodnesha Diamond, who was honored with the Coaches Award at the Berkeley College Athletic Banquet this May, recently represented her native country, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship, also called Caribebasket. Ms. Diamond currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
The CBC Championship is a basketball tournament sponsored by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) during which National teams from the Caribbean seek to earn berths to the Centrobasket Championship. Winning squads compete for spots in the FIBA Americas Championship, through which they can advance to the FIBA World Championships or Olympics.
Sharod Tomlinson, Berkeley College Head Coach, Women’s Basketball, believes this experience will greatly benefit Ms. Diamond.
“Rodnesha has competed against a plethora of great players in these games, including those who have played at the Division I and II levels and some who have professional basketball experience,” said Coach Tomlinson. “Competing has allowed her to display her talents to the world, and she will gain tremendous confidence heading into her upcoming season at Berkeley College. I’m excited for her, and proud of her initiative.”
The Berkeley College Women’s Basketball team will begin its season on the road the weekend of November 8-9, when the Knights will take on Southern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Machias on back-to-back afternoons.
