Berkeley College to Recognize 2,300 Graduates at Prudential Center on Friday

Berkeley College will award degrees and certificates to more than 2,300 graduates during its Commencement ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2015. The ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. To watch the live video stream, visit

Highlights include: 

  • Commencement speaker: Christopher Rodriguez, PhD, Director, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Dr. Rodriguez is a native of Morris County, NJ. Read more…
  • Military graduates: More than 120 military and veteran students will be part of the Class of 2015.
  • International graduates: More than 200 international students will be part of the Class of 2015.
  • High achievers: 30 percent of students are graduating with honors.
  • Student speaker: Nicole Singletary, a Management – Entrepreneurship graduate from the Newark location, will speak about her determination to improve lives in her hometown of Newark, NJ, by developing a community-based nonprofit. Read more…
  • Outstanding student: David Osorio, a Surgical Technologist graduate from the Clifton location, will receive the Robert Maher Outstanding Student award, which is presented to a member of the graduating class who has met high standards of academic excellence while overcoming personal, professional or financial obstacles. Mr. Osorio came to the United States from Colombia as a child. He has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and has received several awards and scholarships in his field.
  • Alumnus of the Year: Tamba D. Aghailas, the survivor of a civil war that lasted for 15 years, has dedicated his life to advocacy for the refugees and disenfranchised citizens of Africa. The Alumni of the Year award is presented annually to a Berkeley College graduate who has enjoyed professional success and community fulfillment. Mr. Aghailas came to the United States on a student visa sponsorship, earning an AAS from Berkeley College in 2005 and a BBA in 2007. Read more…
