Berkeley College will honor alumnus Edison A. Jaquez of Perth Amboy, NJ, with the 2016 Alumni of the Year award during its Commencement ceremony on April 29, 2016. The award will be presented at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, where more than 2,200 aspiring professionals will be recognized for earning degrees and certificates from Berkeley College. The Alumni of the Year award is presented annually to a Berkeley College graduate who has enjoyed professional success and fulfillment through community service.

Mr. Jaquez is the Program Coordinator for the Civic Justice Corps at the Jewish Renaissance Foundation in Perth Amboy, NJ, where he is responsible for program planning and training, working with youth between the ages of 16 and 25. In addition to holding this position, Mr. Jaquez is the CEO/Founder of B-Men, and Co-Founder of BYOUtiful – mentoring organizations designed to enhance the lives of today’s youth. A motivational speaker who travels throughout New Jersey, he shares his story with audiences young and old.

After successfully establishing the mentoring programs, Mr. Jaquez published a book, “A Second Chance: Life Lessons Turned into Living Dreams,” last year. In 2014 he received the Principles for Life Education Award from the I Can Foundation for his outreach efforts, and earned an Award of Recognition from the United Dominicans of Perth Amboy for his valuable work in the community. 

Mr. Jaquez has been described as “a guardian angel traveling along the streets … steering the lives of local teens who might be tempted to make the wrong choices, back on the track toward success, self-esteem and integrity.” Today he is a pillar in his community, earning the trust and admiration of several local officials, elected officials and parents of the young people he inspires every day 

A native of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Jaquez moved to the United States in Perth Amboy, NJ, at the age of 7 with his family, where he still lives today with his fiancée and son. Mr. Jaquez graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Berkeley College in 2009.
