BERKELEY COLLEGE STUDENTS IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP COURSE DISCOVER SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION RESOURCES IN NEWARK

Photo Caption: Berkeley College students enrolled in an Entrepreneurship course taught by Professor Lou Piermatteo, DM, Management, Larry L. Luing School of Business® (standing, far right), toured the Small Business Administration (SBA) in Newark, NJ, on May 21, 2018. Students learned how the SBA could help anyone start or finance a business through its services, which include counseling, development planning, and help with funding. Also standing, from left: Rose Mary Maucher, SCORE Chapter 15; and Claudia Yarborough, Lender Relations Specialist, Newark District Office, U.S. Small Business Administration. Seated, left to right, Berkeley College students Carlos Cruz of Hoboken, NJ; Javon Parker of East Orange, NJ; Kayla Miller of Jefferson, NJ; Stephanie Cruz and Christian Munera, both of Lodi, NJ. According to Ms. Yarborough, the SBA has interacted with more than 100 college students this year.

“The students were engaged because they were learning about all of the resources available to entrepreneurs, and how they can use these resources to start their own businesses,” Dr. Piermatteo said. “The SBA also offers assistance to develop a global business.”

“What impacted me the most is the accessibility of the SBA, located in an urban center,” said Carlos A. Cruz, Berkeley College student. “The location of the facility and the resources, including training workshops for nonprofit organizations, support minority-owned businesses in nearby neighborhoods.”
