Students and graduates from the Berkeley College School of Health Studies now have additional career development resources through an affiliation with CommandCare™, a local healthcare employment agency. CommandCare will partner with Berkeley’s Career Services’ staff in Clifton, Dover, Newark and Paramus to provide additional opportunities for internships, healthcare career counseling, and employment.

“CommandCare expands the number of employment opportunities for Berkeley College graduates in the healthcare professions,” said Sheila Dynan, DMH, Dean, Berkeley College School of Health Studies.

“Berkeley College is a source of well-qualified professionals,” said Jennifer Blanchard, Administrator, CommandCare, about the affiliation. “And our staff can assist students by informing them about what is involved in various healthcare delivery settings, answering their questions, and providing patient care experiences that would give these graduates an advantage in the real world.”

Darlene Hatfield of Wood-Ridge is a Certified Home Health Aide who graduated from the Patient Care Technician program at Berkeley College in December 2013. Ms. Hatfield began working for CommandCare in May 2014 as a Certified Home Health Aide, serving an 89-year-old woman in her home. Ms. Hatfield first attended Berkeley after high school in 1990 and had earned an Associate’s degree in Accounting.

“I realized I wanted to work in healthcare because I had taken care of my grandmother, and then my mother, when she was being treated for cancer,” said Ms. Hatfield. “The transition to work for CommandCare came easily. Having their office nearby was convenient, and if you have a problem or don’t understand something, they are right there with you.”

“The relationship we have with CommandCare allows us to place qualified healthcare professionals and supports Berkeley’s commitment to providing lifetime placement assistance for our graduates,” said Arthur Pann, Senior Director, Berkeley College Career Services. “It’s a win-win.  Our graduates benefit from expanded professional opportunities and CommandCare is able to place the best of the best,” Mr. Pann added.

Another advantage that this collaboration provides is the day-to-day feedback on learning and teaching.

“This is the basis for continuous improvement,” said Elizabeth Fitzgerald, RN, Chair, Practical Nurse and Patient Care Technician programs, Berkeley College School of Health Studies. “Now we have access to direct feedback about patient care in terms of what areas of the curriculum are strong and what needs to improve.  I am also excited to have dialogue about what the needs are out there in the workplace.  From the new graduate’s perspective, this is a way to get experience and have a positive impact in the community.”

Prospective students interested in learning more about these programs are invited to visit with an admissions counselor and schedule an appointment for a tour and overview. For more information email or call 800-446-5400 Ext. PHA.
