Photo Caption: Berkeley College student-veterans honored Joseph Charleman, CST, CSFA, CRCST, LPN, Chair, Surgical Technology, Berkeley College School of Health Studies, with the 2018 Faculty Recognition Award during the annual Veterans Graduate Salute on April 5, 2018. Graduating military students selected Mr. Charleman, a resident of Vernon, NJ, as someone who provided encouragement and support during their time at Berkeley College. Mr. Charleman, a veteran of the U.S. Army, served four years of active duty and four years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Mr. Charleman also volunteers on medical missions with Healing the Children® New Jersey, and has provided pro bono medical care to children worldwide on eight missions to countries such as Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

“The beauty of healthcare is in being able to make a difference in the lives of others,” Mr. Charleman said. “My life as a surgical technologist, like those veterans who are graduating, has been transformed by service. Thank you to all of the graduates for what you have done and for being part of the Berkeley College family.”

Through Mr. Charleman’s efforts and volunteerism, Berkeley College received the 2014 Patriot Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, which recognized the College for its support of military faculty when they were called to active duty.
