Photo Caption: Deanna Lewis of Chicago, IL, a student at Berkeley College in White Plains, NY, recently attended the Accounting Scholars Development Program (ASDP) at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Ms. Lewis was one of 35 outstanding students in the nation chosen to participate in the all-expense paid program. The mission of the ASDP is to provide African-American, Native American or Latino students with an increased awareness of the variety of job opportunities in the field of accounting. During the week, participants visited the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the headquarters of Deloitte and KPMG accounting firms. Now that she is back at Berkeley College, Ms. Lewis has a new career goal. “I have always had an interest in government, politics and policy making and I was excited to learn that employees at the U.S. GAO office work hands-on with some of the congressmen on Capitol Hill,” said Ms. Lewis, who is on track to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at the end of the Spring 2014 Quarter.. “I would love to relocate to Washington, D.C. and work for the U.S. GAO.”
