BERKELEY COLLEGE SPONSORS YOUTH BUSINESS OLYMPICS
IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY

In partnership with the African-American Men of Westchester (AAMW), Berkeley College  sponsored the 7thAnnual Westchester Youth Business Skills Olympics. The purpose of the event is to introduce students to the world of business, to teach them valuable skills in problem-solving and to help them learn to work collaboratively.

Teams of students from 15 high schools competed in the day-long event by presenting and offering solutions to a Harvard Business School case study titled, “The Dannon Company: Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility.” The case asked if corporate social responsibility could be a viable strategy to raise brand awareness and increase market share for Dannon Yogurt products in the United States. Each of the teams had an adult facilitator to help participants focus on the issue and work through the problem together.

“I was extremely impressed and encouraged by these high school students who were able to work together in a collaborative effort to accomplish their goal. They were so respectful, cooperative and understanding with their different opinions and worked together to come to a mutual thought,” said Stuart Siegman, Berkeley College Director, Career Services, who served as a facilitator along with other Berkeley associates and local business leaders.

The winning teams – representing Valhalla High School in Valhalla, NY (1st Place); New Rochelle High School in New Rochelle, NY (2nd Place); and Mamaroneck High School in Mamaroneck, NY (3rd Place) – received awards at a special dinner reception held at the Berkeley College Westchester Campus in White Plains, NY.
