BERKELEY COLLEGE SOCCER COACH LEADS NEW YORK GREEK
AMERICAN SOCCER CLUB TO ITS FIRST U.S. AMATEUR CUP

Photo Caption: Stavros Zomopoulos of Manhattan, NY, recently coached the New York Greek American Soccer Club to its first U.S. Amateur Cup since the team’s inception in 1946. The U.S. Amateur Cup was established in 1923 as the National Amateur Cup. Teams of non-professional players compete in single-elimination format. New York Greek American defeated the Guadalajara Soccer Club of Denver, CO, in the final. “It is immensely important to me that this honor has come with the oldest Greek soccer club outside of Greece, and one that represents and is followed by the entire Greek-American community,” said Coach Zomopoulos. Mr. Zomopoulos serves as Head Coach of the Berkeley College Men’s Soccer team, New York. He was named Coach of the Year for the 2013 season by the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after leading the Knights to their best record in program history. Mr. Zomopoulos attended Columbia University, where he played Division I soccer and won three Ivy League championships. He previously served nine years as Coach of the Barnstonworth Rovers Football Club.
