Berkeley College Scholar-Athletes Named to Fall 2013 HVIAC All-Academic Team

BERKELEY COLLEGE SCHOLAR-ATHLETES NAMED TO
FALL 2013 HVIAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) recently announced its 2013 Fall All-Academic Team, with 137 athletes earning recognition. Eight scholar-athletes from Berkeley College made the list, including four from the New York Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams and four from the New York Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams.

Instituted by the HVIAC during the 2010-2011 season, the All-Academic Team recognizes excellence both on the field of play and in the classroom. Student-athletes who have reached sophomore academic standing and have earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better at the conclusion of the fall semester are eligible for the team.

The following Berkeley College scholar-athletes were recognized:

New York Men’s Cross Country
- Jermund Ottermo, a senior from Astoria in Queens, NY

New York Women’s Cross Country
- Sarah Celin, a junior from Manhattan, NY
- Lacey Garnett, a senior from Corona in Queens, NY
- Noemi Saldivar-Torres, a sophomore from Flushing in Queens, NY

New York Men’s Soccer
- Joachim Moe, a junior from Trondheim in Norway
- Gustavo Moreno, a sophomore from Ozone Park in Queens, NY

New York Women’s Soccer
- Leslie Fernandez, a sophomore from East Elmhurst in Queens, NY
- Sophi Veivag, a sophomore from Askøy in Norway

“I would like to congratulate these eight hard-working scholar-athletes for being named to the HVIAC All-Academic Team,” said Andy DeStephano, Director of Athletics. “Their dedication to their respective sports and their diligent efforts in the classroom has earned them this honor.”
