BERKELEY COLLEGE RANKS AMONG TOP COLLEGES OFFERING SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT
FOR MILITARY STUDENTS AND VETERANS

Berkeley College Receives 2014 Best for Vets and Military-Friendly School Awards

Berkeley College has been named to the Military Times “Best for Vets: Colleges 2014” list for the second consecutive year. This recognition ranks Berkeley College among institutions that go above and beyond in providing academic and personal support for veterans pursuing a college degree. Close to 600 schools responded to this year’s survey and were rated based on feedback from student veterans.  In the four-year college category, Berkeley College ranked 64th.

Berkeley College also has been designated as a 2014 Top Military-Friendly School by Military Advanced Education magazine, a resource guide designed for the nation’s service members to assist them in their academic pursuits. Attributes considered in evaluating institutions for inclusion on the list include flexibility of online learning options, on-campus assistance for active-duty military personnel and veterans, and the availability of full-time counselors trained in veteran-specific mental health concerns. This is the fifth consecutive year that Berkeley College has received this honor.

“It is an honor for Berkeley College to be recognized for its commitment to our veterans and military students,” said Richard E. Robitaille, EdD, Berkeley College Assistant Vice President of Military and Veterans Affairs. “Berkeley College is distinguished in that it has five onsite Veterans Resource Centers – at the New York locations in Midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn and at the New Jersey locations in Woodland Park, Newark and Dover. In addition, last year Berkeley College launched an Online Veterans Resource Center that allows the college to reach a far greater number of student veterans, as well as students who are active service members stationed overseas.”

Approximately 500 military students and veterans are enrolled at Berkeley College in New York and New Jersey, and through Berkeley College Online®. In a list just released by U.S. News and World Report, Berkeley College was ranked among the 2014 Best Online Colleges in the Bachelor Degree category. In addition, last year Berkeley College Online® was one of the first colleges or universities worldwide to receive certification for excellence from the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) USDLA/Quality Standards (QS).

Berkeley College participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program under the G.I. Bill and collaborates on national ventures with the National Guard, the Army and the Air Force, the GoArmyEd distance learning program, and the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership.
