Berkeley College is exhibiting the photography of Leah Morgan at its New York City Midtown Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street. This exhibit is on display from January 7 through 31 – Monday through Friday – from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. An artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, January 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Originally from Chicago, Ms. Morgan is a New York-based photographer who studied photography from 2003 to 2007 at The New School. She also studied the history of art and architecture at The American University of Rome, Italy, in 2007. She participated in an independent study with the program coordinator for National Geographic Expeditions in Europe and focused on landscape photography and of people in their environment. Next, as a research assistant for the University of Athens, Greece, she photographed the Posidonia erosion in the Aegean Sea. Earlier this year, while visiting Kenya, Africa, she encountered people from the Maasai Mara tribe and captured intimate portraits of the people in the community.

Ms. Morgan says she is continually inspired by the diverse people, cultures and scenes that she experiences on her travels. “I have always been a curious person in search of answers and truths – both personal and universal, she said. “For me, photography is about discovery and finding ways to better understand the world around me. I chose the medium because it best provides me with the opportunity to create art that is immediate, natural and from the heart.”

Bob Keiber, Berkeley College Curator, added, “I find Leah’s photos dramatically stunning, yet still very personal.”

Ms. Morgan also lends her photography to support charitable causes. Recently, she started Cards for Kids, a project in which all proceeds go to various charities committed to improving the lives of children.
