Berkeley College is exhibiting the photography of one of its students — Jenny Blond — at the New York City Midtown Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 12 East 41st Street. This exhibit is on display from September 5 through 30 — Monday through Friday — from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Raised in Seoul, South Korea, and encouraged by her parents, Ms. Blond developed an early interest in art and was painting throughout her middle and high school years. She is a Berkeley College student working toward an AAS degree in Fashion Marketing and Management, and has received MFA and BFA degrees from Kyungwon University, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. She also has a Pattern Making Program diploma from the Rasara Fashion School and a Fashion Draping diploma from the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing, both in Seoul.
The artist opened a gallery in Hongdae, the center of Korean art and fashion. Part of the gallery was used as free exhibit space for young, ambitious artists and received much media attention. However, she found it tough to make it a profitable business.
Ms. Blond said, “I was starting to feel South Korea didn’t offer enough opportunities for me to express myself. I knew that New York City was the world leader of arts and culture, so I made the decision to move here. I’m glad I did. I love the culture, am meeting wonderful people, and am enjoying communicating with various artists in this great city.”
She also is a concept artist. Earlier this month, Ms. Blond gave a performance titled “Flags of Our Fathers” which showcased her photography at the New York Public Library.
The artist has exhibited her work both in New York City and Seoul, including the Community Art Project, Ya Gam Art Space (in New York City), and the Brain Factory Gallery, Anthracite Gallery, Think Think Gallery and Survival Pool Gallery (in Seoul).
