Berkeley College is exhibiting the artwork of Natsuko Hattori at its New York City Midtown Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street. This exhibit is on display from March 4 through 29 – Monday through Friday – from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. An artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, March 7, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

Born in Fukuoka, Japan, Ms. Hattori started her art training at age 14 studying drawing and painting at an artist’s atelier.  She graduated from the University of Tsukuba with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  Since 2010, she has been studying with Bruce Dorfman, renowned artist, at the Art Students League of New York.

“Fabric is my medium of choice because people everywhere can relate more easily to this material which conveys warmth, natural softness and the intimate human touch,” said Ms. Hattori. “My sculptures are created from balls that are individually wrapped with fabric and bound together.  Each ball represents the inner state of mankind.”  She strives to have her work convey a sense of happiness and celebrate the human spirit.

“I have not seen sculpture as new, creative and refreshing in ages,” said Robert Keiber, Curator, Berkeley College.  “I predict Ms. Hattori is going to be very big in the art world.”

Ms. Hattori is the recipient of many awards.  The Art Students League of New York presented her with the Student Concours Mixed Media award (first prize), a Merit Scholarship and the Red Dot Prize.  At the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center, Brooklyn, NY, she received the Grand Harvest Emerging Artists award.

She has exhibited her work at the Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art in Japan and in New York City at Gallery 61, Studio 57 Gallery, Joy Grace Institute and Caelum Gallery.
