Berkeley College is pleased to announce that it will begin offering a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Interior Design at the Paramus Campus in Bergen County, NJ. The new program is accepting enrollment for the Fall Quarter, which begins in September.
The studio-based curriculum was developed by the Berkeley College Interior Design Department faculty with student and graduate input, based on clearly defined student learning outcomes.
Students with a BFA degree in Interior Design are prepared for careers in areas including residential or commercial interior design; exhibit design; design management; and merchandising and retail display management. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of interior designers is expected to grow 19 percent from 2008-2018, faster than the average for all occupations.
Transfer students who hold two-year degrees or have successfully completed the appropriate undergraduate courses in interior design are eligible to have those courses considered for application toward a BFA degree in Interior Design or a BS degree in Interior Design Management.
“The Berkeley College Interior Design program puts rigorous focus on areas sought by career professionals in today’s marketplace including sustainability, lighting, codes and regulations, and space planning. The program also includes the latest technology support and in-depth design analyses of both the commercial and residential environments,” said Kevin Byrne, ASID, Berkeley College Chair, Interior Design, School of Professional Studies. “Berkeley College Interior Design graduates are successful because of the quality and commitment of our faculty, who add tremendous value to their teaching with their extensive professional experience.”
“Offering this new degree is consistent with the mission of Berkeley College to provide quality, student-centered professional education,” says Dario A. Cortes, PhD, Berkeley College President. “This BFA degree in Interior Design will put Berkeley College graduates on the fast track to earning professional state and licensing certifications.”
