BERKELEY COLLEGE MBA EXECUTIVE SPEAKER SERIES
HIGHLIGHTS HUMAN RESOURCE LEADERS’ ROLE
IN SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE ORGANIZATIONS

Photo Caption A: Berkeley College welcomes Lisa A. DeRoché, Vice President, Human Resources, Brightpoint Health, to its Woodland Park, NJ, campus as part of an ongoing MBA Executive Speaker Series on March 23, 2017. Ms. DeRoché spoke to students about the role human resource leaders play to ensure nonprofit and socially responsible organizations stay true to their core values.

The Berkeley College School of Graduate Studies hosted Lisa A. DeRoché, Vice President, Human Resources, Brightpoint Health, at its most recent MBA Executive Speaker Series held on March 23, 2017.  Ms. DeRoché is one of the business leaders who serves on the Berkeley College MBA Advisory Board. The MBA Advisory Board is comprised of representatives from various industries who inform the Berkeley College MBA in management program about how to best prepare graduates with the curriculum and skills required to be in alignment with industry needs.

At Brightpoint Health, whose mission is to provide integrated healthcare and social services to the most underserved populations of New York City, Ms. DeRoché is responsible for promoting and retaining the best qualified talent, delivering quality service to its employees, and recognizing and encouraging the value of diversity in the workplace. She has more than 20 years of professional work experience.

“The organization must live its core values,” Ms. DeRoché said.  “We hire, develop and engage employees according to our core values.”

Ms. DeRoché presented how organizations and the role of human resources within a company both have impact. Her remarks addressed areas of strategic focus, social entrepreneurship and employee relations. Using case study examples to show the importance of strategic human resources management in socially entrepreneurial organizations, the dialogue revealed the possible consequences to individual employees, and their respective organizations, if employees are not well suited and deeply committed to the organization’s purpose and culture.

“Organizations, both for-profit and nonprofit, can have an enormous positive impact on society and still thrive economically if their mission and values support the interests of clients, employers, owners, and the surrounding community,” said Chris W. Grevesen, PhD, Dean, Berkeley College School of Graduate Studies. “Employees in 21st-century organizations need to have robust self-development plans and must be savvy, but circumspect users of social media.”
