BERKELEY COLLEGE HONORS MILITARY DURING CEREMONY

AT GARRET MOUNTAIN CAMPUS

Berkeley College recently held a Memorial Day ceremony at the Garret Mountain Campus in Woodland Park to remember those who gave their lives in the service of our nation. The ceremony also honored the many veterans who are part of the faculty, staff, and student body of the College.

“We are grateful to these heroes whose service to our nation secures our country’s existence every day,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College. “Today is an opportunity to share with our children, friends, and colleagues that these heroes are the soul and spirit of what has kept America strong for more than two hundred years.”

Donald Cirulli, Borough Administrator of Ho-Ho-Kus, addressed the attendees. Mr. Cirulli is a veteran of the Army National Guard.

“We have freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, the right to a fair trial, and the right to vote,” said Mr. Cirulli. “All of these things and more are possible and remain possible because of the American men and women who have served their country in the military, and especially because of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The ceremony featured the reading of an original poem by Berkeley College student veteran Jeremiah Carnes of South River, as well as a reading of the list of fallen New Jersey soldiers.

Berkeley College also presented a donation to the Welcome Home Vets Fund of New Jersey, a nonprofit that seeks to meet the needs of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as their families.

Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to an outdoor cookout at the campus.
