Before she became a parent, Farzeena Khan-Ravidatt said her education was not a priority. But when she looked at her children, the mother of three saw the need to invest in her family’s future.

“Growing up, my parents worked hard to give my brother and me the best life possible. I want to be able to do the same for my kids,” said the resident of South Ozone Park in Queens, NY.

Ms. Khan-Ravidatt attended classes at Berkeley College in Brooklyn, Midtown Manhattan and through Berkeley College Online®. She will graduate from Berkeley College in May 2016 with an A.A.S. in Health Services Administration – Medical Insurance, Billing and Coding.

She currently interns at New York Community Hospital, receiving hands-on training in both human resources and health information.

“It has been a great experience,” Ms. Khan-Ravidatt said. “I was able to learn about hospital policy and procedures, and all the ins and outs of medical records, from assembling charts to scanning and coding procedures.”

Michele Figueroa, Berkeley College Career Counselor, Brooklyn, said the hospital is lucky to have someone like Ms. Khan-Ravidatt in their ranks.

“Farzeena is a shining example of how dedicated our Berkeley College students are to their families and their education,” Ms. Figueroa said.

Ms. Khan-Ravidatt said she always dreamed of working in the healthcare field. She plans to continue her education and pursue a Bachelor’s degree at Berkeley College – an achievement she hopes will open doors to a position as a healthcare administrator.

“Farzeena is an excellent student,” said LaToya Trowers-Bell, EdD, Health Services, Berkeley College Larry L. Luing School of Business®. “I have seen her develop academically over time and she continues to strive for excellence in her studies.”

In April 2016, Ms. Khan-Ravidatt was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society for high-achieving students pursuing two-year degrees. She said education is a key to a bright future for her children.

“Success means being able to provide for my family,” she said. “It means being able to give them the best life possible.”
