Brittney Milk graduated from Berkeley College with a degree she values and job in her field, but she also has enduring memories of friendships with students from all over the world.

Ms. Milk, 21, finished her undergraduate studies on the White Plains and Midtown Manhattan campuses in September and attended the College Commencement ceremony on April 29, 2016. She earned a BBA in Marketing Communications.

Ms. Milk said her College experience helped her transition from living in the small town of Callicoon, Sullivan County, NY, to a College dorm in White Plains, NY, to living and working in Manhattan. On January 25, 2016, she began working as a regional sales assistant, in an office in Manhattan, for two Nashville television stations owned by Sinclair Broadcast Club, a television broadcasting company.

“I really like it,” Ms. Milk said. “It’s challenging and it relates to my major. It’s a good first job right out of college.”

Lasting Friendships with International Students

While moving from a small town to the Big Apple has changed her perspective, what expanded Ms. Milk’s world even more was tutoring and developing close friendships with a group of Chinese students who lived with her and other Berkeley College students in dorms on the White Plains campus for three months, ending in October 2015.

“The best experience I had at Berkeley College was when a group of 40 students from China stayed with us,” Ms. Milk said. “We each had two buddies assigned to us. They went on trips with us and on weekends we would visit cultural and historical landmarks and other sites with them.”

Ms. Milk remembered how rewarding it was tutoring the Chinese students in English.

“It was interesting to see how their English language skills improved so much over the course of the program,” Ms. Milk said. “I still talk to them now. I made some good friends. They were great people. It was great to connect with students from across the world. Berkeley has a lot of international students, so I met people from everywhere and became friends with them,” she added.
