Photo Caption: The collaboration between Berkeley College and Guizhou University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) in China continues this summer as eight faculty and 48 students from China study and learn on cultural excursions during their residence at Berkeley College in White Plains, NY. Visiting faculty learned about current best practices in American higher education from leaders in the Berkeley College Teaching and Learning Commons, Master Faculty and academic leaders. In turn, they will integrate newly learned methods into the courses they teach in accounting, business and English when they return to their country in late August. The students from China learned from Berkeley College and Westchester Community College instructors who taught English as a Second Language, International Business, Principles of Finance, Principles of Management, Aligning IT and Business Strategies, International Economics, and Business Communications.

About the Global Collaborative
Berkeley College established the Global Educational Collaborative following several years of negotiations with GUFE. The Global Educational Collaborative Program at GUFE gives students from China the opportunity to earn their Associate’s degree at GUFE and complete their Bachelor’s degree at Berkeley College. To facilitate the process, Berkeley College faculty also teach courses at GUFE each semester to familiarize Chinese students with American pedagogical methods. In addition, GUFE students participate in summer programs at the Berkeley College White Plains campus that focused on American culture and business.

The collaboration also includes a faculty education element. Berkeley College professors instruct faculty members from GUFE in teaching methods and practices at Berkeley College campuses. Visiting GUFE faculty participate in workshops focusing on instructional design, cultivation of student-centered teaching discipline, course design and development, and strategies for transcending language and cultural differences.
