BERKELEY COLLEGE FOUNDATION HONORS 10 AT INAUGURAL LEADERSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP RECOGNITION DINNER

The Berkeley College Foundation held its Inaugural Leadership and Scholarship Recognition Dinner to honor eight student scholarship recipients and those who have made outstanding contributions to its mission. Elyse Kretz, Berkeley College alumna and Group Vice President, Learning and Leadership Strategy and Design at Macy’s Inc., received the Distinguished Alumni Award, and Warren J. Martin Jr., Esq., Board Member and Principal at Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, P.C., received the Outstanding Contribution Award on November 1, 2018, at Berkeley College in Woodland Park, NJ. 

 

The mission of the Berkeley College Foundation is to provide financial support for student success.

 

“On behalf of the scholarship recipients and members of the board of the Berkeley College Foundation, I want to extend thanks to the donors and sponsors, and all of the volunteers who did so much for making this remarkable evening possible. Our Foundation scholarship program is an ideal opportunity for corporations committed to social responsibility, diversity and inclusion, to invest in the next generation of leaders,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, Executive Director, Berkeley College Foundation.

 

Berkeley College Foundation Board Chairman John Phillips also congratulated the scholarship recipients and extended his thanks to the sponsors and donors. “Your contributions all are making a difference,” Chairman Phillips said.

Ms. Kretz’ career path spans more than 30 years that began when she entered the executive training program at Bloomingdale’s. Today she is the Group Vice President, Learning, Leadership & Careers at Macy’s Inc., with a large team spread across several locations in the United States, including her base of operations in New York.

 

“You are enabling us to make the College more affordable and accessible,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College.

 

The students who received scholarships included Jonathan Caldwell-Noh of Watertown, NY; Doris DeLucia of Nutley, NJ; Britney Fraser of Orange, NJ; Franchesca Hernandez of Prospect Park, NJ; Hanae Ouzhour of Brooklyn, NY; Amy Reyes of Plainfield, NJ; Daniel Montes of Newark, NJ; and Emanuel Tlatelpa of Brooklyn, NY.

 

Elyse Kretz of Manhattan, NY, and Newtown, CT, received the Distinguished Alumni Award. “I knew I had a mission and I had to be successful when I graduated,” Ms. Kretz said. “I had the practical experience to help me achieve my goals.”
 

Ms. Kretz’ career path spans more than 30 years that began when she entered the executive training program at Bloomingdale’s. She held management positions at The Gap and then a leadership role in human resources, managing a team of learning consultants across the country. She joined Macy’s 11 years ago to lead the learning function for Macy’s private brands and her success led her to become a senior business partner in human resources. Today she is the Group Vice President, Learning, Leadership & Careers at Macy’s Inc., with a large team spread across several locations in the United States, including her base of operations in New York.

 

Warren J. Martin Jr., Esq. of Morristown, NJ, received the Outstanding Contribution Award.  Mr. Martin is a principal of Porzio, Bromberg & Newman and Co-Chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Department. He has been a member of the Berkeley College Board of Trustees for 20 years and has served as a board member for both the New Jersey and regional chapters of the Arthritis Foundation.

 

In accepting the award, Mr. Martin acknowledged the efforts of the Berkeley College Foundation to educate students who might not otherwise be able to receive higher education.
