BERKELEY COLLEGE FASHION STUDENTS GET READY FOR PROM SEASON

         MODELING DAZZLING DESIGNS

Anyone looking for the perfect prom attire had the opportunity to view a dazzling collection at the recent Prom Fashion Show organized by Berkeley College Fashion Marketing and Management students.  The show was held at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Rockaway, NJ, and focused on clothing for both men and women from Lord & Taylor, J. C. Penney, Deb Shops and Caché.

Berkeley College students and faculty worked together to make the show a success.  Ashante Barnes-Awe, Director, Student Development and Campus Life, Woodland Park, and Jennifer Litvak, Assistant Dean, Student Development and Campus Life, Online, both of Berkeley College, served as fashion advisors.

“Preparing for the show was sometimes challenging, requiring hard work and long hours,” said Ms. Barnes-Awe.  “But opportunities like developing a fashion show are key for student growth and development.  These are the types of experiences, outside the classroom, that all Berkeley College Fashion Marketing and Management students should be looking for.”

Ms. Litvak agreed, adding, “Of course, it was fun too.  Berkeley students were eager to be involved in all aspects of the show.  And those walking the runway loved the fact that we had a wide variety of options in prom attire for them to choose from — lots of bright colors and sparkling outfits. We’re proud to see them step up and handle the runway like pros.”

Shantae Smith, a student at the Berkeley College Middlesex location, worked as a model coordinator, helping out with scenery and music. She plans to graduate in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Marketing and Management, and is leaning toward a career in modeling or fashion design.  She said, “We had just a few weeks to prepare, but we dug in and worked as a team.  The result was an event everyone at Berkeley College could be proud of.”

Ms. Barnes-Awe added, “It was an afternoon of glamour and excitement.  We hope to do it again next year.”
