Berkeley College Exhibits Paintings

by Artist Kathleen Migliore-Newton

Berkeley College is exhibiting the artwork of New York artist Kathleen Migliore-Newton, at its New York City Midtown Campus Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street. This exhibit will be on display from April 1 through 30.  It is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  An artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, April 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Now living in New York City, Ms. Migliore-Newton was born in Monroe, MI, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.  She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and a Master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)  from Adelphi University, Garden City, NY.

Ms. Migliore-Newton enjoys painting figures in the urban landscape, and says she believes strongly that subject matter in art is the force that drives style.  Her canvases are people characters, both real and of her own invention.  The paintings are juxtaposed like collage, and there is an implied libretto.  They often have a layer of private meaning, and provide an invitation to the viewer’s imagination.

“Living in New York City, I am a witness to the arrival of immigrants, and the human  panorama of people of diverse cultures going about their daily lives,” she said. (With my work)  I have tried to dream their lives.”

Ms. Migliore-Newton has had numerous exhibitions of her paintings, including these in New York:  Sonya Group Exhibit, Brooklyn; Hudson Opera House, Hudson; The Painting Center, New York City; the Pelham Art Center, Pelham; and La MaMa La Galleria, New York City.
