Berkeley College Exhibits
Paintings and Sculpture by Artist David Tobey

Berkeley College is exhibiting acrylic paintings and sculpture by artist David Tobey at the Berkeley College Midtown Campus Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street, from January 7 through 29, 2009.

The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday. An artist’s reception for Mr. Tobey will be held on Tuesday, January 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Mr. Tobey, son of the late well-known historical painter, illustrator, and muralist Alton S. Tobey, started painting in his early childhood in his father’s studio. He also had a serious interest in music, fostered in no small part by his mother, Rosalyn Tobey, who was a distinguished concert pianist.

In his teens Mr. Tobey studied art at the Art Students League in New York and violin at the Music Conservatory of Westchester. He gained admission to the Julliard School of Music and graduated with a performance degree in 1975. He also holds a Master’s degree in Studio Art from the College of New Rochelle.

He has had many exhibitions of his paintings and sculpture, including a one-person show  at Pleiades Gallery in New York, NY, as a benefit for the American Cancer Society. He also exhibited with the Contemporary Artists Guild at Broome Street Gallery in New York City, at the office of the Borough President of Manhattan, and at galleries in Westchester County, NY.

In addition to being a painter, sculptor, and teacher, Mr. Tobey performs with many New York City freelance orchestras and with Broadway shows. He is a member of the Westchester Philharmonic, and has appeared on radio and television discussing his art.
