Berkeley College Exhibits ‘In Love with the Circle’ –

 Acrylic Paintings by Atanaska Tassart

Berkeley College is exhibiting artwork by artist Atanaska Tassart at its New York City Midtown Campus Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street. This exhibit will be on display from January 4 - 29, 2010.  It is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  An artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, January 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Ms. Tassart holds a Master’s degree in multimedia fiber art from the State University of Visual Arts in Lodz, Poland, and in painting from the University of Art in Vienna, Austria. She also studied at Parsons School of Design and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

About her paintings, the artist says, “I like to work spontaneously and in the moment.  I set no limits on my materials.  I work on canvas, paper, or wood, and enjoy exploring the varied effects of oils, acrylics, inks, and mixed media.  I rely on the color palette as a versatile and expressive element in my work.”  She adds that, most recently, the circle has become her primary visual component as she explores the endless arrangements, combinations, and articulations of this most basic shape.  “I take the circle as the basic unit of my art and continuously improvise new images by playing with color, texture, and composition…”

Ms. Tassart’s work has been featured in many American and international exhibitions as well as several solo shows in New York.  She has been honored with the Theodore  Koener Foundation Award for Science and Art and received an Excellence in Visual Arts Award from the Austrian government.
