Photo Caption: Above: Berkeley College students and staff gather at the Newark campus on June 18, 2018, to create messages of hope on ceramic hearts for the Hearts of Hope New Jersey Chapter. The Chapter’s 2018 Summer of Hope Campaign goal is 500 Hearts of Hope by August 1. These hearts will be distributed to seriously ill children at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “I was so excited to bring Hearts of Hope to Berkeley College,” said Amy Castillo, Berkeley College Assistant Dean, Student Development and Campus Life, Online, who has participated in the initiative for many years. “Each person on our campus has a huge heart and a giving spirit – and everyone seems to know someone going through a time in their life where a message of hope is just what they might need. The hearts are so wonderful because they are a feel-good activity for the painter and for the recipient.” She added that the hand-painted designs can be beautiful, whimsical, funny, and share whatever is in the creator’s heart. These activities are part of the Year of Giving, an initiative at Berkeley College Online® as they celebrate 20 years of excellence Online. Each month, Online Student Development and Campus Life chooses an activity to link with Berkeley Cares, an initiative that seeks to empower the Berkeley College community to positively impact society. Below: Left to right, hearts created at the administrative offices of Berkeley College Online® and at the Paramus campus during the summer. In all, the Berkeley College community will create and donate 100 hearts toward the 2018 Summer of Hope campaign for Hearts of Hope New Jersey Chapter.
