BERKELEY COLLEGE COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
LENDS HELPING HANDS AROUND NEW JERSEY

Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Honors Students Volunteer more than 1,400 Hours

On Friday, June 5, 2015, 350 Berkeley College associates, alumni and Honors students spent the day in service to their communities at various nonprofit, service-based organizations in New Jersey and New York. During the 6th Annual Community Service Day, volunteers had 21 opportunities to serve in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris and Passaic counties.

“Berkeley College is proud to contribute in meaningful ways to the communities where we live and work,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “We expect our students to bring this social consciousness and spirit of service with them when they leave Berkeley and go on to make a difference.”

Volunteers shelved books, served in soup kitchens, planted flowers and painted rooms at organizations such as Children’s Aid and Family Services in Paramus, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Clifton and Wayne, and Sarah Ward Nursery in Newark.

“We’ve actually gotten to know the volunteers that come here every year on a first-name basis, and they seem to genuinely love coming here,” said Dave Font, Unit Director, Boys and Girls Club of Wayne.

Community Service Day is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success. Service organizations who would like to know more about Community Service Day can e-mail communityservice@berkeleycollege.edu
