Photo Caption: Berkeley College was among the supporters of the Spirit of ABNY Awards, sponsored by the Association for a Better New York (ABNY) Foundation. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was on hand to congratulate honorees, including Thomas F. Prendergast, immediate Past Chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), who received the Lew Rudin Award for his distinguished career in public service and the success of the Second Avenue Subway. The Lew Rudin Award pays tribute to the memory of ABNY’s first chairman. Awards were also presented to Time Square Pedestrian Plazas for the completion of the Times Squares Pedestrian Plazas (accepted by Polly Trottenberg, Commissioner New York City Department of Transportation and Tim Tompkins, President, Times Square Alliance), and TCS New York City Marathon, for celebrating the 40th anniversary year of the five-borough marathon, (accepted by Michael Capiraso, President and CEO of New York Road Runners, and Jim Heim, Senior Vice President, Event Development and Production, and Technical Director, TCS New York City Marathon, New York Road Runners). A special recognition of the life of ABNY founding member Jack Rudin was held during the event, which took place on Monday, April 24, at the Rainbow Room. Funds raised at ABNY Foundation’s Spirit of ABNY Awards, founded in 2007, contribute to social, educational, and civic initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the five boroughs of New York City. Pictured (L to R) are Angela Harrington, Assistant Vice President, Communications and External Relations, Berkeley College; Governor Cuomo; and Dallas Reed, PhD, Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life, Berkeley College.
