BERKELEY COLLEGE CELEBRATES OPENING OF BUSINESS DEGREE
PROGRAM AT JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST

Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes, PhD, along with military representatives, faculty, staff and other guests attended a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 9, in the Education Training Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in southern New Jersey, to celebrate the first time a college degree in business is being offered there since 2003.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to offer our academic programs at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey,” said Dr. Cortes. “These military men and women and their extended families will be able to take courses at the base or online and they will benefit from Berkeley College’s ‘Changing Lives for 80 Years – 1931-2011.’ Berkeley has a strong commitment to support all the branches of the armed forces as they seek a college education.”

Dr. Cortes added that the growing Office of Military and Veterans Affairs serves 350 students. The College recently opened a Veterans Resource Center at its New York City Midtown Campus where students can meet, share their experiences, and receive additional support.

Berkeley College Assistant Vice President, Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, Richard Robitaille, EdD, expressed satisfaction that the College has been selected as an on-base partner following an 18-month-long review process.

“There was a lot of competition in the review of the proposals,” said Linda Robinson, Flight Chief for the Education Center at the base. “We are excited about the growth of our program to include the field of business. One characteristic that distinguished Berkeley College during the selection process was that it offers Lifetime Career Assistance.”

Berkeley College participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program under the G.I. Bill, which allows as many as 1,550 of its students to have their tuition and fees covered each academic year. The College also collaborates on educational ventures with the National Guard, the GoArmyEd distance learning program, and the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership.

Berkeley College was recognized in 2009 and 2010 for its outstanding military programs in the “Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities,” published by Military Advanced Education. It also was honored by G.I. Jobs magazine as a Military-Friendly School for 2009 and 2010.
