Members of the Berkeley College community participated in the 37th annual Hudson County Heritage Extravaganza Children’s Parade and Festival, held in Jersey City, NJ, on September 10, 2016. Sponsored by the New Jersey Center for Empowerment and Community Development (NJCECD), the day was a celebration of New Jersey and Hudson County’s rich diversity and Hispanic heritage. This event marks a number of initiatives Berkeley College is sponsoring to commemorate National Hispanic Heritage month.
Berkeley College associates, students, alumni, family and friends shared community pride aboard the College’s float, handing out sunglasses and foam fingers to parade attendees. Berkeley College and parade honorees were honored with proclamations and certificates of recognition from the municipalities of Jersey City, Union City and Bayonne, and the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
“Education is an important message to share with our community as we celebrate diversity and Latino pride,” said Rev. Jose Lopez, CEO/President, NJCECD, during the event’s opening ceremony. “Higher educational institutions like Berkeley College help the NJCECD motivate our community’s children and show them that they can accomplish anything they put their mind toward.”
