According to the IACBE, institutions that receive accreditation have undergone a rigorous self-evaluation and a comprehensive peer review, and have demonstrated compliance with the organization’s guiding principles, which include outcomes assessment, strategic planning, and a focus on faculty and curriculum, among others.
“Accreditation by the IACBE affirms Berkeley College’s commitment to continuous improvement and to providing an excellent business education to our students,” said Beth Castiglia, PhD, Provost. “Berkeley is proud to join the 1,500 accredited programs worldwide that have committed to the principles of the IACBE.”
Berkeley College received its candidacy status for accreditation by the IABCE in August 2015 and conducted the required self-study component in the accreditation process throughout the 2015-2016 academic year.
At the IACBE Conference, Berkeley College administrators and professors presented their research on innovative teaching and learning. Dr. Castiglia and Elana Zolfo, EdD, Dean, Larry L. Luing School of Business, presented “The Benefits to Students and Organizations of Online Project-Based Internships.” The presentation detailed the launch of the Berkeley College Project-Based Internship, which provides students who are already employed an opportunity for meaningful real-world business consultative work that can be completed virtually as a group project. Dr. Castiglia and Dr. Zolfo described how this internship alternative helps the College fulfill its mission to enable all students to achieve lifelong success in dynamic careers, even if they do not have the time to participate in a traditional on-site internship.
Rahul Bedi, PhD, Chair, Management, and Darshan Desai, PhD, Management, both Larry L. Luing School of Business, presented “Negotiations and Model Diplomacy Simulations: A Case-Study of Innovation in Business Education.” Their presentation discussed the rationale for creating and implementing an interactive Model Diplomacy program into an undergraduate business course. The program, which was created by the Council on Foreign Relations and adapted by the faculty at Berkeley College, aims to enhance student engagement, global citizenship and soft skills like communications and public speaking.
