BERKELEY COLLEGE ATHLETICS NAMES ALEX KUCHAR
The Berkeley College Department of Athletics recently announced the appointment of Alex Kuchar as Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball program. The team will begin its 2016-2017 season on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Southern Maine Community College.
“I look forward to honoring the hard work and passion that my predecessors have put into this program over the years,” Coach Kuchar said. “It is important to me to build on that hard work and hopefully guide our basketball program to new heights. I cannot wait to get to work on building the program and to work with Berkeley College’s student-athletes.”
The Berkeley College Women’s Basketball team has made four consecutive appearances in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II National Women’s Basketball Tournament since 2012. The team was also ranked No. 1 among 41 teams nationwide by the USCAA Coaches Poll in 2014.
Coach Kuchar brings with him experience as a successful coach and player. As the Assistant Coach for the Women’s Basketball program at Mount Saint Mary College, he helped lead the team to back-to-back Skyline Conference titles, as well as back-to-back appearances in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III National Tournament. He also served as the Assistant Head Coach for the Boys Basketball program at St. Mary High School, helping lead its varsity team to back-to-back North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Meadowlands Division titles during the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. Coach Kuchar most recently served as the Head Coach of the Boys Basketball program at Secaucus High School. Before becoming a coach, he played at Mount Saint Mary College and Centenary College’s Basketball programs as a shooting guard. Coach Kuchar currently lives in Secaucus, NJ.
“We are pleased to have Alex Kuchar become a member of the Berkeley College Athletic Department and look forward to his tenure as Head Coach of Women’s Basketball Coach,” said Andy DeStephano, Berkeley College Director of Athletics. “I am confident he will be as successful as a coach as he was a player.”
