BERKELEY COLLEGE ASSOCIATES VOLUNTEER IN THE BRONX
ON 5th ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

Berkeley College volunteers, comprised of approximately 300 staff, faculty, students, alumni and trustees, volunteered more than 1,000 hours of service at 27 community agencies in New Jersey and New York as part of the 5th Annual Berkeley College Community Service Day, held Friday, May 16.

“Community Service Day is an educational opportunity wherein we help others, and our staff, faculty, students and alumni learn more about the communities where we work and live as we support them with our voluntary efforts,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College, who volunteered at Room to Grow in Manhattan, NY. The mission of Room to Grow is to enrich the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development.

In the Bronx at Rocking the Boat, volunteers cleaned, sanded and painted boats, and took young people out on the boats to experience the Hudson River. At the Food Bank for New York City at Hunt’s Point Cooperative Market in the Bronx, volunteers, including honors students, sorted food and goods for redistribution around the city. At Part of the Solution, an organization that nourishes the basic needs of residents, volunteers served lunch in the soup kitchen.

Community Service Day is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success. To view a video about Community Service Day, click here.
