BERKELEY COLLEGE ASSOCIATES VOLUNTEER IN NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY
ON FOURTH ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
More than 200 Berkeley College associates and alumni volunteered 800 hours of service at 29 community agencies in New York and New Jersey as part of the fourth annual Berkeley College Community Service Day, held Friday, June 7.
In New York, volunteers had opportunities to volunteer in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Rockland and Westchester counties. Associates worked in soup kitchens, stocked food pantry shelves, sorted library materials and delivered meals to the homebound elderly.
In New Jersey, volunteers had opportunities to volunteer in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties. Associates cleared park trails, prepared for a charity fundraiser, completed projects with children, and served meals to the homeless.
Community Service Day is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success.
“Berkeley College has a long tradition of serving organizations in New York and New Jersey that need our assistance,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College, who volunteered with associates at the New York Public Library in Manhattan. “Community Service Day is an educational opportunity for our associates and alumni to learn more about the communities where we work and live as we support them with our voluntary efforts.”
