BERKELEY COLLEGE ASSOCIATES VOLUNTEER IN NEW JERSEY
ON 5th ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

Berkeley College volunteers, comprised of approximately 300 staff, faculty, students, alumni and trustees, volunteered more than 1,000 hours of service at 27 community agencies in New Jersey and New York as part of the 5th Annual Berkeley College Community Service Day, held Friday, May 16.

“Community Service Day is an educational opportunity wherein we help others, and our staff, faculty, students and alumni learn more about the communities where we work and live as we support them with our voluntary efforts,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College, who volunteered at Room to Grow in Manhattan, NY. The mission of Room to Grow is to enrich the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development.

In New Jersey, volunteers had 18 opportunities to serve in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties. Among the range of services offered, for example, volunteers worked with the Greater Newark Conservancy cleaning up city streets and painting buildings; prepared and served meals to guests at the Hoboken Shelter; organized and sorted clothing at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop in Dover; and assembled fundraising kits for the American Diabetes Association in Bridgewater.

Community Service Day is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success. To view a video about Community Service Day, click here.
