BERKELEY COLLEGE APPOINTS ROSS MILLER
SENIOR DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT

President Dario A. Cortes, PhD, is pleased to announce that Ross Miller, EdD, has joined Berkeley College as Senior Director of Assessment. Dr. Miller comes to the College following nine years at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) where he was Senior Director of Assessment for Learning in the Office of Education and Quality Initiatives.

“With his extensive background in formative, performance and portfolio assessment, I am confident that Dr. Miller will be a great asset to Berkeley College,” said Dr. Cortes. “His past work as an educator and administrator has proven Dr. Miller is strongly committed to academic excellence — a value that is shared by all members of the faculty and staff at Berkeley College.”

While at AAC&U, Dr. Miller worked with planning and implementation of the Greater Expectations and LEAP Initiatives — national projects to raise achievement for all undergraduate students. He also helped reshape the content and processes of the AAC&U Institute on General Education. The Institute offers a coherent curriculum that advances participants’ knowledge and skills in the processes and strategies of general education reform, learning centered innovations in undergraduate education, and assessment.

Dr. Miller served the Institute both as an AAC&U staff member and as an Institute consultant. He has authored, co-authored and contributed to several AAC&U publications related to general education, assessment planning and improving student learning of liberal education outcomes.

Prior to his AAC&U work, Dr. Miller was a tenured Associate Professor of music education at Nazareth College of Rochester, NY. As Assessment Coordinator for Nazareth College, he was responsible for evaluation of the College’s general education program. He has served as a question writer in the arts for the National Assessment of Educational Progress and worked on a NYSSMA team developing a high school outcomes test in the arts for the New York State Education Department.

Dr. Miller holds a Bachelor’s in Music and a Master’s in Music in trumpet performance from the University of Michigan and a Doctorate of Education in Music from the University of Illinois.

A leader in business education for 78 years, Berkeley College currently maintains an enrollment of over 7,200 students, with more than 700 international students in its Baccalaureate and Associate degree programs. The College has two New York campuses in Midtown Manhattan and White Plains, an Extension Center in Lower Manhattan in the Wall Street area, and four New Jersey campuses located in Woodland Park (formerly West Paterson), Paramus, Woodbridge, and Newark.
