Berkeley College Appoints Joanna Ciavarella as Tennis Head Coach

Berkeley College has named Joanna Ciavarella Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams. Ms. Ciavarella, a top-ranked Division I athlete, comes to Berkeley College after serving two seasons as Assistant Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams at City University of New York (CUNY) – Hunter College. She is a resident of Brooklyn, NY.

“I’m excited to join the Berkeley College Department of Athletics as Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams,” Ms. Ciavarella said. “I look forward to meeting and working with the student-athletes, and bringing my passion for tennis and college athletics to this program.”

As Assistant Coach at Hunter College, Ms. Ciavarella led the Hawks Women’s Tennis team to the 2013 CUNY Athletic Conference Championship, and to the Conference semifinals in 2014.

As an athlete, she played for four years at Division I tennis at Wagner College, leading the team in wins during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, as well as competed in intramural play at Brown University.

Ms. Ciavarella holds a BS in Chemistry from Wagner College, and an MA in Chemistry from Brown University. She is pursuing a PhD from The Graduate Center at CUNY.

The Berkeley College Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams captured Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) titles in 2015.
