Berkeley College Appoints Iessa J. Sutton as Campus Operating Officer, Brooklyn

Berkeley College is pleased to announce the appointment of Iessa J. Sutton as Campus Operating Officer for its downtown Brooklyn location at 255 Duffield Street. In this role, Ms. Sutton will handle day-to-day operations, and collaborate with all departments to ensure that the policies, procedures and goals of the campus and College are met.

As Campus Operating Officer Ms. Sutton will continue to build and strengthen the partnerships with businesses in the community that support the growth of internships for students which lead to permanent career positions. Ms. Sutton will also serve on the Brooklyn Education Innovation Network (BE.IN), a Downtown Brooklyn Partnership initiative that facilitates collaborations between member institutions in the higher education community and local industry, the Borough of Brooklyn and City of New York.

“Iessa has strong leadership qualities, and we are fortunate to have her in this role,” said Timothy D. Luing, Berkeley College Executive Vice President. “I know she will help us fulfill our mission as we work diligently to prepare our students for graduation and dynamic careers.”

Ms. Sutton joined Berkeley College in 2012 in the Career Services department, where she was promoted to Senior Director. There she recruited, trained and motivated associates while developing strong interdepartmental relations. She is an Online Facilitator for the University of Phoenix.  Prior to joining Berkeley College, Ms. Sutton held management positions with The Harlem School of the Arts, The Hewitt School, and The Julliard School, all in Manhattan, NY.    

Ms. Sutton graduated from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA, with a BA degree in psychology and double minor in music and communications. She earned an MA degree in Arts and Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, AZ, where she currently is enrolled in a PhD degree program in Higher Education Administration.

Ms. Sutton is a member of the Leadership Berkeley Class of 2015. Leadership Berkeley is an internal training program that enhances leadership skills.  She serves on the Board of Directors at the Theatre of Dance Movement Cultural Arts Academy, St. Albans in Queens, NY, where she began her studies and training in the art of dance and voice as a young child.
