Berkeley College is proud to announce that it has established an Office of Military and Veterans Affairs to address the unique academic needs of veterans and active military personnel. Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes, PhD, has appointed Richard E. Robitaille, EdD, as Assistant Vice President to oversee this vital office.

“Dr. Robitaille, a combat veteran with 20 years in the US Army, brings to this office a unique understanding of both the Armed Forces and the higher-education community,” says Dr. Cortes. “He will work closely with veterans, national guard members and active duty military members, overseeing the development of strong connections between Berkeley College and the various branches of the United States Armed Forces.”

Berkeley College participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides higher education assistance for veterans under the Post-9/11 GI Bill (also known as Chapter 33).  The program allows as many as 1,550 students to enroll at Berkeley College and benefit by having 100 percent of their tuition and fees covered each academic year.

Berkeley College also has an educational partnership with the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership (NCPDLP).  This program offers degrees via distance learning to sailors in the US Navy. This progressive partnership supports the sailors’ mobile lifestyle and educational goals, and allows students to use their benefits under the Navy Tuition Assistance program to cover the cost of their courses.

Before this appointment at Berkeley College, Dr. Robitaille served as Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs for the New Jersey campuses since 2007.  In addition to his civilian career, Dr. Robitaille is a Master Sergeant in the Army National Guard and serves as Chief Instructor with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s Regional Training Institute, where he oversees the training and development of hundreds of soldiers annually. His active duty in the US Army included service in countries and regions such as Germany, Kosovo, Macedonia, France, England, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait. He has received numerous medals and commendations for these worldwide deployments.

Dr. Robitaille holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Studies from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  He earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Doctorate in Leadership in Higher Education from Widener University.
