Photo Caption: Amanda Amato,Berkeley College alumna and owner of AMA Designs and Interiors LLC (Right), discusses the challenges and rewards that come with the interior design business during an appearance on the public television program Life & Living with Joanna Gagis on November 26, 2016.
Berkeley College alumna and owner of AMA Designs and Interiors LLC, Amanda Amato, of Pompton Lakes, NJ, was featured on the public television program Life & Living with Joanna Gagis on November 26, 2016. During the show, Ms. Amato discussed how she became enamored with design at a very young age, and the challenges and rewards that come with the interior decorating business.
“I always wanted a career that helped people,” Ms. Amato said during the interview. “Design came natural to me. I was drawing rooms at the age of six, and I always stuck with it. I had a feeling I was always going to be a designer. I tried exploring other passions, but design was always the one that stuck.”

Ms. Amato graduated from Berkeley College in 2012 with a B.S. in Interior Design, taking courses both online and on site in Paramus and Woodland Park, NJ. Following her Berkeley College internship with wallcovering company Phillip Jeffries, she earned interior design roles at Thomasville Furniture and Funk Design Studio before becoming Senior Interior Designer at Boonton, NJ-based firm Polo M.A. Inc. Today, she provides her design services through AMA Designs and Interiors LLC, while also volunteering to charitable causes like the renovation of the kitchen at Great Notch Fire Co. in Little Falls, NJ.
Ms. Amato credits Berkeley College professors like Alfonso Torino, Ph.D., Chair, Interior Design, for showing her how to expand upon her design skills. “Professor Torino would always ask questions that I hadn’t even considered when designing,” she said. “I still ask myself those same questions today as I design rooms to not only look beautiful, but to be functional as well.”
