BERKELEY COLLEGE ADDS DECA-NYC CONFERENCE TO BRING REAL BUSINESS EXPERIENCE TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
More than 1,000 entrepreneurial and business-oriented high school students from all over the world are in New York City this week and next week, exploring marketing, finance, fashion and hospitality careers at the DECA NY Experience Conference taking place at the New York Pennsylvania Hotel at 401 Seventh Avenue. One of the presenters to address these future leaders in the fashion industry will be Myra Butensky, Berkeley College Instructor, Fashion Merchandising and Management.
This 90-minute hands-on fashion workshop sponsored by Berkeley College will take place 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on December 4, 5, 11 and 12. Ms. Butensky will discuss how to identify and predict a trend, and will incorporate the students’ perceptions of New York City as they relate to the creation of trends. The students’ trend observations will be communicated through mood boards – a collection of textures, images and text related to a theme as a reference point – they create.
The DECA NY Experience is another opportunity that Berkeley College welcomes as part of its mission to empower students to achieve lifelong success in dynamic careers as DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Berkeley College faculty members with real-world experiences help prepare graduates as they gain industry-specific knowledge and build their own professional networks. In addition to the DECA NY Experience, Berkeley College sponsors career workshops in such disciplines as Business, Fashion, Interior Design, Justice Studies and Health Studies throughout the year to introduce career options to high school juniors and seniors as well as adults who are looking to start new careers.
